so. in. love.

you remember the little yearling from a few posts back with the white nose and stripes on her face? very gazelle-like? she's my favorite now. i was walking back to the hut from the creamery and heard a sad little bleating, and looked over and saw my little yearling wandering around the donkey pen in a little bit of a panic. she came up to the fence and looked at me with an expression that seemed to be saying, "i'm lost! i'm lost! fix it!".... oh my god, so many melty feelings.

i stepped over the fence and she looked up at me and i patted my leg for her to follow me over to the fence bordering the yearling pen - she was right at my heels with no hesitation... and i bent down and lifted her up and over the fence. she ran off with her friends, and then when i went back a few minutes later, she was right there with her nose sniffing up at mine.

i'm in love.

...and i walked the line of the pen and have absolutely NO CLUE how she got out. no idea. ... it's a mystery.

in other news, a particularly holstein-looking mama goat has missed three consecutive feedings - i generally check the barn when i get up, and before i go to bed, to be sure nobody's hiding in there sick or injured...and i noticed her in there yesterday morning...and last night...and again this morning. mike went out to check on her and is afraid she might be having a miscarriage, though she's not looking distressed.... discharge + not eating + wandering off alone to a corner of the barn = worrisome... poor mama goat. say a goat prayer for her, if you would... i ask because it hurts to see an animal suffer, but also because i want me some baby goats ASAP.

i will probably feel differently in March.
